The Villages of Lone Oak was a 960 acre residential project on the shores of Lake Tawakoni, in Lone Oak, TX.  The developer was offering over 1,000 single family homes, mostly second homes. Land planning was very sensitive, with constant minor moves to preserve specimen trees, wetlands, historic structures (the site contains the historic Ford’s crossing dating to the 1800’s, prior to creating Lake Tawakoni) and even attractive rock outcrops. Most owners were buying second homes.  

Rather than line each fairway with homes, the developer allowed us to put two holes parallel to each other to improve golf ambiance.  Some holes were inspired by classic Golden Age architects, including no. 12, based on Ross designs at hole 14 at Oakland Hills with a reverse slope green, and a Seth Raynor inspired Biarritz green at No. 9. 

Sadly, the development didn’t survive the downturn of 2006-8, which occurred just as the project was breaking ground.  And, it was a shame because the golf course was one of our best, and few got to see it.
