Brauer grew up on public courses, and strives to make public courses that rival private clubs.
Because every course should be unique, Brauer avoids “trademark features”. Golf writer Bradley Klein opined that no one could guess that the two courses at Giants Ridge were designed by the same architect, which is the highest compliment possible.
Former PGA Tour Pro Jim Colbert once captured the essence of our philosophy better than I could, when he said, “Most architects give you either aesthetics or practicality, but with Jeff you get both.” Both are required for financially successful projects. Great design does both, and more, for projects of all sizes!
He believes the essence of the game is fun, camaraderie and competition. Every golfer can enjoy his designs, and he strives to create courses that “you could enjoy every day,” always emphasizing:
– A unique “sense of place” by working with nature.
– Ambiance over extravagance.
– Interesting holes over difficult ones.
– Variety, with an almost eclectic blend of shots, strategy, and aesthetics
– Appeal to the next generation of golfers, not the last.
– Built in economic and environmental sustainability.
– Guarding the budget is as important as guarding par.
A Jeffrey D. Brauer design makes golf better for….
– All golfers, regardless of handicap,
– All courses, regardless of price points.
– All golf course owners, striving to offer value to golfers.
Brauer provides “new school” designs, but believes in the “old school” design process of careful planning prior to construction. It still saves time, money and inconvenience. “Leaving details to be worked out in the field” often means “leaving it to chance.”
Working closely with the client is a core value of our design process. When you retain Jeffrey D. Brauer to craft your course, your input is welcome, your ideas respected, and your questions answered.
Now with over 40 years of experience, Jeffrey D. Brauer/ GolfScapes, provides golf course architecture, landscape architecture and land planning for diverse clients in diverse locations across the globe. It’s likely that Brauer has already seen and solved terrain, budget, or environmental challenges like yours, and created a memorable golf experience.
And, while the challenges vary, the design process remains the same. We use a step by step process aimed at maximizing the potential of your golf course, whether new or renovated while minimizing mistakes or omissions.
