Cowboys Wins Again
While their namesake football team struggled early in 2010, Cowboys Golf Club once again took home the Best Overall Public Course in DFW, as named by Avid Golfer Magazine.
It was the facilities ninth consecutive win of this award. The magazine notes that some wins were with slim margins, but this year, the course was a runaway winner in the voting. While other courses cut service and conditioning, Cowboys has stood tall and remained at the top of its game.
Cowboys is one of Jeffrey D. Brauer's top designs, garnering Zagat's Best New Award and many other honors upon opening. The multiple wins after opening suggest the design is not a flash in the pan, but has some real staying power in attracting golfers.
Several other Brauer designed courses also placed well in the various categorical rankings, including Westridge, Indian Creek (Creek Course) and TangleRidge all finishing in the top 5 of the mid price public category. Squaw Valley (Brauer's first 18 hole design in Texas in 1989) was named the third best "hidden gem" for courses well out of the Metroplex.
In all, 8 of Brauer's public designs were in the top 50 courses in the area.
