Brauer Teams to Renovate Famed La Costa Resort
KSL has picked a team of Pascuzzo and Pate and Jeffrey D. Brauer GolfScapes to renovate its famed La Costa Resort. The team interviewed against many interested firms, and won KSL over with its overall approach to the project and knowledge of the existing conditions.
La Costa is famous as one of the top five resorts in the country and its courses are famous for their history as a PGA Tour tournament course (Notably, the long time host of the annual Tournament of Champions and later Mercedes Championship) and current LPGA Tournament Course (Kia Championship). Design team member Steve Pate was one of the TOC winners.
The renovation will focus on the North Course and the holes in the view corridor of the hotel. After a study of all 36 holes, these were deemed the most important to tackle in phase I. Work will consist of maintaining the character of the Dick Wilson design, reducing irrigated turf to reduce use of precious water resources, and improving the agronomic base upon which the turf grows, including new irrigation, sand cap of fairways and new USGA greens.
A contractor for the work will be selected in January 2011 and work should be complete by summer of 2011.
